I play renaissance and early baroque music. I bought this lute guitar hoping it would add or give this "je-ne-sais-quoi" extra that seemed to be missing when I played John Dowland & co with a standard classical guitar. And I got exactly what I had hoped for!
The lute guitar looks very lovely and seems to be well made. Well, one incident happened. The 5th string broke mysteriously, after 3 weeks of use, while the isntrument was at rest. Thomann kindly sent me an extra set of strings, so I was able to repair the damage quite quickly and go on playing.
The beauty of this instrument, in my opinion, lies in the very clear sound of the higher strings... and the very dramatic depth of the bass strings. I cannot achieve such a big contrast between the high and low strings with the guitar. This lute guitar brings me much much closer to the idea of how the real lute music should sound and what the early composers had intended.
The only problem is: How to hold a lute-shaped guitar in a good position when playing? But this is not the instrument's trouble, onlý mine.
