Hello out there,
I recently bought the Orion Studio Synergy Core from Antelope Audio. Because of their special offer it came with one Edge Solo and four Edge Note modeling microphones.
The interface I had before was not supported by the manufacturer any more, so that was the reason to replace it.
The quality of the converters is top notch and are an upgrade to the sound quality of my old converter ( even it was in the same price range than the Antelope).
The routing matrix is a little bit complex and could easily overwhelm you, but after a while I was able to handle it. What helped me was to make a drawing of the connections you want to create. There are so many possibilities and I just scratched the surface.
It comes with over 50 Plug Ins that emulate / modulate classic studio gear. Due to the fact that I do not own all the originals, I cannot say how close those emulations are compared to the real units, but I like what I here and what it does to my recordings. Even the fact that you have to buy all these plug ins when buying an interface from a different brand is a plus for the Antelope Audio unit.
I own this unit for almost two weeks now and it becomes more and more the central hub of my studio. Thats why it is more than an interface for me.
The sound quality of the preamps is really good, and combined with one (or more) of the free plug ins I can create the same sound quality that normally requiered outboard gear.
The way I work in my studio I would not need more than 12 preamps or more than two headphone outputs. That means that I can sell a lot of my outboard equipment, like preamps, headphone amp, reamping device, and microphones, that the interface literally pays for itself.
As a guitar player I am really picky when it comes to guitaramp and cabinet emulations. The ones that are included are really useable and I absolutely like the fact they react to the setting of your guitars volume knob. Just like a real amp would. You could even use outboard guitar pedals to create the same results you would achieve with real outboard gear
For me it was a good decision and the right way to go.
