Remarkable but not perfect

I waited with this review until I had this 12-string for about a year. It was time for string replacement since I still had the factory strings on it. I never played much on the guitar, so the strings still looked okay.

I replaced the factory strings with 0.10 Pyramid Gold Flat Wounds. Flat wounds are the right strings for a twelve string guitar, so they say. Changing strings on this guitar is a bit of a pain in the neck. The string retainer is built for six strings so you have to deal with one slot for two strings. The factory strings had smaller ball ends that fitted neatly inside the string retainer but the Pyramid replacements have some ball ends sticking out at the back. Invisible though, but this is a clear example of the cheapness of this guitar.
I also noticed that the filing of saddles was a sloppy job. As you may know a twelve string has the thin gauge string (octave) above the regular string as seen from the player's standpoint. Two of the saddles had wider string slots on the wrong side of the saddle.

Did I just notice that the new strings make the guitar sound more in tune than the old factory ones? Hm... should have done this earlier!

So why did I not play as much on this guitar as I had expected? Dunno exactly... maybe a lack of inspiration? Comes with age, you know. This guitar maybe deserves a young master with loads of ideas.

It sounded magnificent on my band amps (Koch Studiotone 4 speakers and Fender 75 with one speaker) - better and brighter than on my small Fender Vibro Champ at home or played directly in the mixer when recording at home.

So, what can you expect for so little money? It is still one a fun product, that is for certain.

Not as much fun as I expected

Guitar looks nice. Keeps head diving though since the body is a bit light compared to the neck and head. For a 12 snare it's good value for money I think, but thought I would use it more often. I only do now on rare occasions when a little extra 12 snare sound is needed.
